Christine Shepardson: Turkey, June 2008
Dr. Shepardson returned to Turkey to continue her research on the history of Christianity in the Roman city of Antioch (modern Antakya, Turkey). She arrived in Istanbul, where she visited the early Christian church buildings dedicated to Hagia Sophia and Irene. She then travelled to Sanliurfa, the Roman city of Edessa, where Ephrem, the fourth-century Christian leader who is the subject of her first book, lived the last ten years of his life. She visited Harran, and then travelled all day by bus to Antakya (Antioch) to conduct her research, and then back to Istanbul.
