In order to provide exciting and challenging opportunities for students as they move toward graduate education and professional careers, we have a variety of ways donors can support the department. We are grateful to all those who have contributed to religious studies. The Joan Nicoll Riedl Endowment supports a rising senior in religious studies purchase textbooks, provide travel-related expenses for honoring outstanding religious studies alumni, costs related to religious studies visiting lecturers, and other purposes related to the mission, operation, and function of the department. The fund honors Joan N. Riedl who was a secretary in the department from 1976-2010.
The Fund for the Study of Religion is for funds where the need is greatest, within the Department of Religious Studies. Its primary purpose has been to support faculty research and symposia.
The Religious Studies Endowment Fund provides long-term financial support for the Department of Religious Studies, College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, campus. It was established in honor of the department's 50th anniversary and is in memory and recognition of the faculty and staff that helped found and develop the Department of Religious Studies beginning in 1966. It supports numerous critical research, teaching, and outreach efforts, including some of our large annual public lectures.
Undergraduate Research and Travel Fund provides funds for undergraduate students to engage in research and travel connected to research in religious studies.
F. Stanley Lusby & John O. Hodges Teaching Endowment provides funds to award outstanding junior faculty and lecturers for teaching efforts, support visiting faculty scholars, and travel funds for religious students of need to participate in faculty-supervised international travel experiences.
The Siddiqi Lecture in Islamic Studies supports an annual lecture to bring leading scholars in the field of Islamic Studies to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and to foster a greater understanding of Islam in East Tennessee. We are grateful to our donors, Siddiqi Holdings of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Anjali Endowment in Hindu Studies supports an annual lecture to bring leading scholars in the field of Hindu Studies to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. We are grateful to our donors, Heetesh and Dimpal Patel, for establishing this fund.
Abraham and Rebecca Solomon and Ida Schwartz Distinguished Lecture Fund for Judaic supports an annual lecture to bring leading scholars in the field of Jewish Studies to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This fund honors Abraham and Rebecca Solomon and Ida Schwartz and was generously endowed by Dr. Alan Solomon.
The Karen and Pace Robinson Enrichment Fund provides support for lectures and programming in Judaic studies. We are grateful to our donors Karen and Pace Robinson.
Dr. Gilya Schmidt Endowed Faculty Award Fund in Judaic studies supports and honors Judaic studies faculty for their research and achievements in the field. It was established in honor of Gilya Schmidt who was a professor of religious studies from 1993-2015.
