OUR

PROGRAMS

Undergraduates can earn majors, and minors in Religious Studies. 

In addition to the major and minor in Religious Studies which can be completed in person or entirely online, students can major or minor in one of our areas of concentration. Our Religion and Nonprofit Leadership (RNPL) coursework includes an internship with a 501(c)(3) organization.

Both the major and minor in Religious Studies and the major and minor in Religion and Nonprofit Leadership are offered in person as well as entirely online.

Declare a Major or Minor

Graduate Students enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program in another department can earn a graduate certificate in Religious Studies. 

B.A. in Religious Studies

The major in Religious Studies is designed to engage students with the historical and critical academic study of religion as a crucial component of the study of world history, global cultures, and contemporary politics. Our undergraduate program equips students with the analytical tools to understand the complex relations among religion, culture, and society in past and present contexts.

B.A. in Religious and Nonprofit Leadership

Religion is an important part of the nonprofit world: in addition to nonprofits with religious missions, many other nonprofit organizations work with religiously diverse groups of people or other forms of religious diversity.

B.A. in Religion, Race, and Ethnicity

The Religion, Race, and Ethnicity concentration consists of 33 hours. It focuses on the intersections of religion, race, and ethnicity in North America.

B.A. in Religious studies Honors

The honors concentration consists of 30 hours. Students must have an overall GPA of 3.25 to be accepted to the honors concentration. To graduate with honors the student must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.25 and pass 407 and 408 with at least a 3.3 in each class. Students interested in the honors concentration should consult the department’s honors coordinator.

Minors in Religious Studies

The minor consists of 15 hours in the department of Religious Studies. No more than 3 hours may be taken at the 200 level. Students are encouraged to discuss their program with a faculty member in the department.
